It's stand alone not a DLC... and it's shelling out for more graphics when the 2020 version is still awesome... but hey, you get to do civilian 'missions'.

For me, it's just a MSFS cash cow once more, and if I want missions I want to do them in a war setting.

Don't think I'll be shelling out on this one.

Historically, MSFS has typically had a two year rotation, they just seem to be returning to that model after the long break between FSX and FS2020:

The amount of free quality content FS2020 has gotten over the lasts couple of years and will continue to get, I have no issue buying the next iteration.  These guys are currently the only flight sim dev team doing this amount of quality work on a consistently and regularly.   I looking forward to FS2024 👍

Yeah, I am looking forward to this as well. They seem to have a huge team in place now compared to other quality flight sims so I expect quite an upgrade. I hope they do it well. Don't care about the civilian mission so much as I have my combat sims for that sort of workout. I just enjoy exploring the landscapes available and the variety of civilian aircraft I get to fly.

Looking forward to this but agree with Props and Trooper; not really interested in ‘missions’ as such but the upgrade to the core engine is the attraction.

I’m just a bit anxious that my antique PC won’t run this nearly as well as the 2020 version.

This announcement has been a bit of a hilarious PR disaster for Microsoft.

It’s become obvious that the bit of MS that runs the flight sim side had no idea the bit of MS that runs the Xbox side we’re going to release this video yesterday.

The result; a meltdown of the very large civilian flightsim community over whether the millions spent on add ons in the last couple of years would be wasted money!

I'm going to wait and see. I quite like MSFS 2020 but don't use it enough; no interest in civilian airliners, for example. If the PC needs a significant upgrade then I'm out for a while.

Cheers.

PS Flew from Croydon to Dover and fairly close to Gatwick last night - in a Savoia flying boat. Hope that I gave a few people the 'what the bejeesus was that?' feeling. 😁

I am in the homepage picture... or I would be if they hadn't cropped off the bottom part of it. 🍻

Apparently the tornado shown in the promo video is not a canned effect.

Its part of what the new weather engine is capable of😲

Whoa, that is pretty cool if so!

Considering what the absolute shite on TV costs each month that I never, ever watch—if it were up to me (it’s not!) I’d cancel the vapid nonsense and sell the TVs—buying flight sims is pennies on the dollar, and I have/will use them for hundreds for hours. Me? I love MSFSims.  I bought an add-on F4U that IMO is awesome and I tool around FL and the Hawaiian Islands in that baby. Can’t strafe/bomb but that’s okay, I love flying.

It is very very attractive. We probably need a RTX 6090 coupled with a 15th Gen 15900KS CPU to have all this in full 4K at 120 FPS.

couple that with the new Apple VR thingy....   I'll need to get a 2nd on the house....
