  1. The costs of maintaining a museum ship are astronomical, even for a wealthy country like ours. Restoring a warbird, or developing a flight sim are chump change in comparison. For example, USS Texas's current dry dock period is already well in excess of $20 million US, and she is not near being finished yet. It's simply impossible to save them all. Sadly.
  2. And mine... December 17th. 1903, Kittyhawk, North Carolina. IMHO, the most important photograph of the 20th. Century.
  3. Indeed so sir. One of the biggest realism issues in combat flight simulation is the over the top experience level of the majority of the player base compared to the (very) young men that flew for real. And the fact that not one of us has any fear of death when playing a sim. Not that we won't have fun, mind you.
  4. In evaluating the P40E in GB, you have to understand that it uses performance parameters outlined in the pilot's manual used by the USAAC for training units in the continental US. And it is unrealistically hampered by the hyper restrictive engine timer mechanic used in that sim. In operational use the V1710 in the E was able to be used at high manifold pressures for extended periods. US and Commonwealth units are documented to have run these engines as high as 70 inches of manifold pressure, for extended run times, without issue. That equates to around 1700bhp at sea level. I'm not saying the P40E was perfect, or utterly dominant, but the real aircraft cannot be judged by the hollowed out husk of a fighter we have in the other sim.
  5. And some Ki61s to joust with them.
  6. @Boom You sir are obviously a man of impeccable taste. The Curtiss Hawks have been my favorite fighters for as long as I can remember. Like most here, I found the P40E In Il2 GB was a complete let down. It feels like they removed the V1710 and replaced it with a 100bhp Lycoming from an old Cessna, with just enough oil in it to run at economical cruise, for a short time. This flys in the face of how every air force that operated the Hawks actually used them, including the VVS. I hope that when the Hawk 75s, 81s, and 87s arrive in Combat Pilot that they get the performance that they deserve.
  7. Anthropomorphic controls has been tried in the other sim before over the decades, and the preponderance of players hated it. If past is prologue, I wouldn't count on seeing it here.
  8. I know, but the speculation is all we have for now. I do applaud your choices though.
  9. I'm perfectly happy with these 8 aircraft for initial release. A little something for everyone.
  10. There can never be parity in a true simulation. And there shouldn't be. In PF and '46 the BlitzPigs almost always flew for Japan because the servers were always stacked in favor of the blue navy planes. It was a fun and exhilarating environment to fly in. Bring it.
  11. Curious that a couple of "Messerschmitt 109" are claimed. I wonder what those actually were. Far too early for Ki61s to be encountered.
  12. Outstanding first DD!!! Can't wait to launch off the deck of Akagi!!
  13. Anyone that can afford the operating costs of one will opt for something far more modern, and faster, or they will just re-up their Net Jets membership.
  14. I wish them luck in what is a VERY thin market for aircraft of this type. As to help for 3D modeling, not a chance.
  15. A 20 G please. It was the best light bomber in the South West Pacific. Also, there is an unsung workhorse of the Pacific that has not been modeled before that I know of.. The Lockheed Ventura. A hard working, yet forgotten aircraft of the Pacific theater.
  16. As long as my attack aircraft has forward firing guns, I'll make sure that the fighter coming after me has to work for it. Remember, the Val and Dauntless may not be fast, but they can turn quite well when unladen of bombs.
  17. Video worked for me without Facebook.
  18. Looks like a Pratt & Whitney re-engine job, but that's OK. Whatever it takes to keep it flying. Thanks for the pics!
  19. That would cover the IJN for most of the war.
