wheelsup_cavu
Very nice. It could pass as Planes of Fame's twin or at least its first cousin. https://planesoffame.org/aircraft/plane-J2M3 Wheels 6 Quote Download Missions, Skins, & Essential files for IL-2 1946 and several other game series from Mission4Today. Aruberikku
Awfully quite in here. Time to change that! Here's my WIP: Tamiya's 1:48 Nakajima J1N1-Sa Gekkō. (Interior completed.) It's my first serious scale model attempt, so any tips are welcome. (Did some as a kid, but only glued them together, since paint was too expensive.) I know I should use masking tape, but doing that cockpit without any was a fun challenge. Not too happy with the decals, but learned of the existence of decal setting solutions today so I ordered some. Fuselage: Main cockpit and seats: Some extra cockpit parts: Forward up-firing cannons:

Aruberikku
Finished my Gekkō! Used a spray can for the main exterior colour, but everything else was hand painted. There's a few things I'm not happy with (my canopy masking skills, decal skills, etc...) but overall I think it could be a lot worse. Was a bit demotivated when I realised I was missing an engine cowl. Had the kit for several years, so I probably misplaced it... Tamiya wants €20 to replace it and claim it could take up to two months to arrive since it would have to be a special order. Won't bother with that. (Tempted to just rebuy the same kit anyway, so I could have another go at it once I have more experience.) If I ever try dioramas, I could also just pretend maintenance is taking place (even if it looks a bit goofy) or maybe turn it into a crashed aircraft. Next project will either be a 1:48 Kawanishi N1K1-Ja Shiden Type 11 or a 1:72 U-Boat Type VII C. Edited February 9 by Aruberikku

Shame you don't have the dimensions for the cowling and know someone with a 3D printer. Might be an interesting challenge for them to try and make one. Coogs
Just sharing my weathered Eduard 1/48 A6M2 Type 21. This is Sakai Saburo’s V-128 (Tainan Kokutai, Sasai Chutai), August ‘42, Rabaul. Shot down 27 August ‘42 by RAAF P-40s, with Yamashita Sadao at the controls that day (KIA). Aside from small decals, it’s entirely painted, including all markings, with pre-shading, hairspray chipping and oil weathering.

ZachariasX
Looks great! I really like your metallic paints for the engine, gears, etc. Also your chioce in shading the the canvas covered control surfaces. I have two kits that I give to my boys birthdays, the new Airfix P-40 and the Zero in 1/72 scale. I didn‘t opt for Tamiya ones, as they allow for considerable more work with all their details and kids like to see progress when they are working, else they tend to lose their nerve. For me it is different. I don‘t mind doing baby steps. The hobby bench is about the only place where both wife and kids leave me alone no matter what (the kids might show up for occasional curiosity), whereas when doing home office, reading a book or flight simming, in their understanding I am always fully available to them. 1

Truth there, just about the time I sit down and put my VR set on is almost always when the wife shows up with the honey-do list, or the kids suddenly need something right this instant. 2

Appreciate that! Yes, indeed, the great color debate of our times. 🙂 It’s a mix of gray/hemp, heavily washed in brown. I figured that made sense for Rabaul and the unit’s optempo. My photos are very much on the dark side, sorry, but yes, definitely more beige leaning vs. bright IJN gray. In any case, thanks! And my engine is likely over weathered, but again, the conditions. All those zeros taxing around, often on grass, dirt and/or gravel fields, often repaired with dirt thanks to those regular, pesky B-25 raids. Ground crews would surely be in hot water though for their dereliction of duty on this AC. 😋
