Lovely work! I haven't built any models in 20+ years but I do have an A-10 my father-in-law gave me last year sitting here in a box waiting for me...

That one, though, looks like it had a LOT of time put into it, enough to embarrass any ones I made in the 80s or 90s!

Let's keep that Pacific theme going! My build a few years back of the legend that is the Dauntless.

My first foray into salt chipping and salt chipping plus layering. Junky terrible fitting kit, good learning curve though.

Gn728 I love that base for that PBY.

Oh hey - those are stands you can buy. They've been made by a couple different companies over the years. Most recently flightpose.com - I just checked over there and currently sold out - but you can see what they are....

Lovely Raiden gn, really like the pop that pre/post shading gives it 🙂

Staying Pacific, this is Tamiyas 1/48 KI84 that i used as a sort of test mule for attempting a stressed metal look and hairspray chipping. The best thing i love about modelling is all the different techniques one can muck around with.

a.jpg

Being a really old Tamiya kit it had a lot of raised lines so the all the plastics were sanded down

b.jpg

Wings and fuselage were all rescribed, the new lines were all sanded around the edges and then puttied to take away the sharp edge and hopefully leave the stressed metal look

c.jpg

d.jpg

Once i was happy with the scribe and putty work rivets were added.

e.jpg

Aluminium base, hairspray coat and then the green top coat. Add water after a few hours and activate the hairspray and work it with a small brush to flake away the top coat.

f.jpg

Hard to see the stressed effect but it is definitely there, i'm just not a great photographer!

g.jpg

The decals were all too vivid so markings were painted on and weathered.

  • gn728 changed the title to Pacific....

This model is by Jason Hsiao. It showed up in my feed earlier this year and then again yesterday. Diorama is titled Frozen Kodiak Bay. Seemed like a good omen......

that PBY, incredible!

My high school history teacher flew one during WWII.  Being based out of the Aleutians.  He said they always had a depth charge one side, and a torpedo on the other.

Very nice! Still to build either of these beauties. I see we have the same old school type spring lamps as well 🙂
