Sea Serpent Posted January 10 Share Posted January 10 I would have to say yes. DCS is a juggernaut that does everything well, can make any type of aircraft, has carriers, radar. Maybe no flyable Zero now, but 2 or 3 years, probably yes. And they have very high standards. Even if they made no movement towards the PTO at all, it would still be a force to be reckoned with for any other flight sim studio. The term “Study Sim” becomes blurred when we are looking at many WW 2 aircraft, because they are “relatively” simple to learn if you already have the basic virtual flight sim skills. Some people might associate DCS with months of frying your brain trying to learn an A-10, and so it maybe didn't have as much crossover appeal to many casual IL-2 players. However, the WW 2 planes don’t have that kind of learning curve, and if there is more expansion in the WW 2 genre, then yes, I think it’s serious competition. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Due to the ADHD nature of DCS development (which as near as I can tell is throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks) I fully expect two or three aircraft, a half done carrier, a map and on to the next "thing". This afternoon, I just screwed around, randomly, with a Hokum helicopter on a completely hypothetical practice map. I'm rooting for Jason's Combat Pilot game, although I don't play IL-2 anymore. So these are the things I've been doing when I get the World War 2 Flight Sim urge, which is not always. Sea Serpent Posted January 21 Share Posted January 21 (edited) If I had to take one DCS module to a deserted island, I think the Black Shark, Frankencopter that it may be, would be it. Its one of the most unique things I've ever flown in a flight simulator. Of all the helicopters in DCS, this is the Airwolf of them. I had the original version of it, back in 2009, and was too intimidated by it, but eventually learned it in future versions. When I really think about it, this is the most fun I've had with any of the modules, and continue to, but that is a close call. But part of it is, even though it is a more modern helicopter, I don't forget how to fly it, unlike so many other modules. This is a milk run, they said. Just take out a platoon of Panzer IVs south of Carentan (lol, I'm even equipped with Iglas to deal with the Dora 9's): But the Germans got me. That was one heckuva ditching in this helicoper.
