Stats (love or hate them), but I really like stats after a sortie, would love to see them in Combat Pilot

Recommended Posts

I have to say I really liked the stats system that Warclouds used to have, it was called T.A.R.G.E.T. It rewarded staying with your aircraft, it made you want to get back to friendly territory with your aircraft, it recorded your bullets fired, hit ratio, plus so much more. I tried to find a good overview of the stats system in one image, but was defeated since Warclouds is no more.

I did manage to find a few images scattered around the internet that show mostly what it could record for each pilot...I thought it was awesome and so comprehensive.

Agreed. I also used to laugh at the '46 in game "show gun stats." As long as those three words were typed you could add anything you wanted, like, "show my awesome gun stats," or "show who has the coolest gun stats"

Back in RoF, there were guys that would die, every sortie.  And man would they talk trash.  And when I would inform them that they simply sucked at that game, they’d come back and call me a Stat Whore, with no regard for Team or Wingmen, which made me somewhat indignant.  I guess it’s inevitable that somebody always has to make a thread like this….😂

it needs to be in game, GB have good stats system that can be easy modified for what ever you wont to do but otside game not sinc with ingame, stats make players play way you wont them to play on your server, making them sinc with in game would be great.

In game stats need to have ability to hide enemy side player numbers and stat, ability to delay stats display seow had that options in old il-2 it was not popular but its more realistic, or how acg run it in their campaign, only visual confirmation by other players and so on...

In GB in SP you miss accuracy %, other things are ok, stats are not just MP thing, when you play in SP you wont to see how many kills you got and so on, display that on airplane skin, in real wars it was important, it was wrong most of times as you dont have exact info like we got in game, but it was good for propaganda, and in game its great tool to dictate behavior on your server as players who play on day to day bases keep coming because of their stats or their team stats or war stats and so on, and they bring in other players.

In PTO it will be important to do torpedo or bomb damage stats corectly who get what when big ships are hit and destroyed, or youll just make it pointless for single players to even try using bombers if they dont get reward for crippled big ship, just so guy in zero gets final drop of 4x50kg , and kills a captain who then trips and opens up antiflod doors and ship go down and poor 3 kate players who got kia droping torpedos dont get points 😄

I think that there should be some option to tie bomber player to fighter player and if bomber gets some points then that fighter player gets also escort points (if hes pos was mostly close to bomber player) to promote escort bombers behaviors, something like frend requests, bomber players aprove it, and if your bad escort he rejects it and so on... As in modern MP enviroments escorts are not rewarded and most players do not do it, so bombers go alone they get killed they dont play devs dont make bombers and so on...

why does SP player care if AI wingman gets kill for airplane he was shooting at 😄  he cares because like to any MP player stats are important. Maybe that guy was bigger statswhore, he aimed for most Kill/sortie and for that if you get down dosent mather

No, not so complicated…those guys just sucked, and rationalized it by denigrating stats and telling themselves that they were somehow “brave” for their willingness to die for the team.  That’s the kind of player I’m talking about when I use the word “Airquake.”  It’s ironic though how much time some of those same people spent in the wee hours of the morning so that they could bomb defenseless trains and get their squad on the leaderboard.

Stats have a place and, presumably are a by product of what the mission/server needs for conditions of victory in any case. Whether or not people use them is personal choice. I do think they should be bent a little more towars encouraging teamwork or mission goals as Count Zero states. Escorts can be a blessing and a curse so how the stats would reflect the good from the bad is a quandry.

Stats and scoring systems should be designed such that they don’t encourage point spamming.  If you have a scoring system that rewards Leeroy Jenkins or arcade-like gaming styles (fly, die, lather, rinse, repeat) then that’s what you’re going to get, and unfortunately most of the flight sims I’ve played do exactly that.

Looking at the stats I posted, maybe they are rose-tinted glasses, but all I am seeing is player stats encouraging play that keeps the player alive and completing missions rather than fly and die? I find it useful to be able to see my hit rate, as it helps when watching tracks back to see why my stats may be low when I thought my aim was good. Also completing bombing missions, damage affected on the target and watching replays to see if improvements can be made with aiming....just useful to help improve the players' ability.

Trooper 'No Stats' here... when I was doing lots of online flying, (hyperlobby, years ago) I never checked stats, saw no need for them... my love of multi player and what I looked for to enjoy it, was to link up with my squadron chums, fly the mission and successfully complete all objectives, and top of the list was trying to get all the boys back in one piece.

The online camaraderie was great, and taking on some of the German Staffel's was a real challenge sometimes, as there were some real good ones... but I never needed or bothered to check any stats. Just flying with the chaps, and having some great banter before and after the events was all I needed.

The only stat system I enjoyed and actually punished that sort of idiocy well was CloDs SOW but that also had a human element in terms of command and control of supplied resources and a squad bit=dding system. I also liked the recon element required to assess battle damage. No photo no gain.

TAW attempted something but it was a blunt tool that could actually punish team players wanting to progress the mission rather than fly about at 30K.

While your at it make different pilot characters at least for each major qualification.  A dive bomber pilot, a fighter pilot, a torpedo pilot, and so on.

Nothing is worse than having a successful fighter pilot in an online campaign getting slaughtered every time switching over into a vulnerable attacker.  People refuse to fly the strike side because they're unwilling to flush their virtual lives in another role.

Seems like there is a difference between "stats" amd what people use them for. Personally, I like having data where possible. Having been in the Army, I am not put off by being able to quantify my marksmanship, simulated or otherwise.

I prefer visualization rather than hard stats. I can't remember which sim - Forgotten Battles, 1946 - something back in the day where you could review your bullet hits after the flight. Arrows were drawn showing bullet trajectory and just where the hit was. Worked for me in relating how the damage model was working and also the amount of individual bullets that missed. Quite enlightening.

That would be IL-2 being played in Arcade mode. You enabled the option in the conf.ini file under the [GAME] section

[game]
Arcade=0
when set to 1 it changes display to show balloon speech from aircraft and arrow bullet strikes etc. Can be 1 or 0

Yes, this is the one. Never played it in arcade mode though. Setting to 1 or 0 just changes the display mode. Very handy tool for review.

Would like to see something like this again.
