  1. A guy on the ED forum is pretty desperate to sell his almost new TrackIR, so one of you might take it off his hands.
  2. Combat Pilot: Battle of Atlantis. PS. Yes, I know that Atlantis is in the Atlantic.
  3. @BraveSirRobin Why do you assume that he is referring to gliders and transports? I don't see him mentioning those.
  4. @Major Lee I'd get an AMD CPU now if I were you. The 7800X3D is the best gaming CPU right now, is cheaper than the i9 processors, produces less heat and you'll probably be able to upgrade in the future as well. And (some) new GPUs should be released between now and the end of the year.
  5. I'm pretty sure that things like AI have to be completely hand-written in C++. You get a lot of the graphics engine 'for free,' but it doesn't mean that there is a plugin for everything. I assume that they will have to increase the team size substantially in the future when they get (more) into making things that the engine doesn't already support.
  6. It's like an engine in a car, only completely different.
  7. We're still very early in the life of UE 5 and UE 6 won't be there for a long while. There is still a lot of improvement to come to UE 5. For example, they will apparently finally put much better multithreading in 5.5. I personally hope to see nanite in Combat Pilot, which seems to be very well suited to a flight sim where you go from being very far to objects to being very close up, so having an optimal level of detail at each level would allow for great visuals, without pop in.
  8. Yeah, all the stuff that UE5 offers by default isn't going to be an issue (other than still requiring work of course). The question is whether the engine will provide certain limitations.
  9. For 800 EUR and up you can buy them. Just the base, that is.
  10. OpenXR is a plugin for Unreal Engine, so it should be relatively easy to support. Quad View Foveated Rendering does not seem natively supported in Unreal Engine (yet). There is some stuff specific to Quest headsets that seems to work. But the OpenXR standard only started to support is as a general extension, so it may be a while before Unreal supports it properly for all headsets with eye tracking.
  11. The channel has got a few other nice breakdown video's of military vehicles, as well.
  12. I think that if a maps contains a lot of water, it should be possible to make it much bigger, since water is very generic.
  13. Hawaii/Pearl would certainly appeal to people/Americans. On the other hand, having a map with lots of water together with a map with a lot more land, like New Guinea, would probably be a lot more appealing when it comes to actual diversity of gameplay.
  14. Wags/ED put out a statement on Discord:
  15. There are ways to create wind effects, but the result is never truly realistic. The effects of wind are pretty complicated, with leaves moving easier than branches, light branches moving more than heavy branches, and each grass blade being affected differently. It all gets computationally expensive very quickly and thus anything that can actually be run at high FPS is heavily simplified. I don't see good reason to implement this for a flight sim where you are typically quite far from the vegetation.
