kestrel79
Pretty cool to know that WW2 carrier training was happening in the Midwest here on Lake Michigan. I think this is at the Naval base north of Chicago right? No salt water really preserves the plane wow. Bring more up! There has to be more down there.

Indeed, as you note, no salt water. Perfect for preserving them. 3 Quote MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control
Sea Serpent
I’m pretty sure I’ve read somewhere that this particular plane was actually at Midway.

Interesting, it appears 2 SBD's were pulled from Lake Michigan. One in 1995, and another in 2009. https://www.pearlharboraviationmuseum.org/blog/our-douglas-dauntless-sbd2p/ 2 Quote MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control
HBPencil
The Military Aviation Museum's -5 was also pulled out of Lake Michigan in '94, currently being restored to flying condition with the work split between the US (wings) and NZ (fueslage). https://www.militaryaviationmuseum.org/aircraft/douglas-sbd-5-dauntless/ 1 Quote Skins, missions, campaigns and historical references for flight sims: http://www.axis-and-allies-paintworks.com/news.php
Sea Serpent
I was thinking of an SBD-2 pulled out of Lake Michigan that was assigned to VMSB-241 at Midway, attacked Hiryu, and came back heavily damaged. https://pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/sbd/2106.html 2
