Hartsblade Posted July 25, 2023 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Hey guys, there is a Florida based company that holds the type certificates for the Catalina PBY-5A in both the States and Canada and they have just announced they will be producing a modernized version of the iconic seaplane. Imo, they would have to be fans or the cost for their services will likely be cost prohibitive. It's payload will be far below that of modern tankers for larger loads and it's speed below that of the S2 (and comparable) fleets for smaller loads. Helicopters fill all of the intermediate tanking roles. I doubt firefighting will be in the cards. It's only market will, likely, be flying yachts for commercial fishing excursions and super flying yachts for private ownership. Sort of an up-gunned Goose/Turbo Goose.
