  1. And just when it seemed that this contentious issue had been put to bed. :) From 2007 on j-aircraft.com https://www.j-aircraft.org/smf/index.php?topic=4769.msg34049#msg34049
  2. You're right Kintaro, that is indeed odd that such a classic name was available. And thank heavens for that. :)
  3. Ahhh, life would be so dull without pets. 😃
  4. I do hope so. I'd be heartbroken if I couldn't use my MFF 2 stick. It's the only one I've had for twenty odd years, still going strong.
  5. Good video. I so hope that the struggle for Guadalcanal features prominently in this sim. It has everything. Air combat, bomber escort and free hunts, scrambles, ship strikes, naval action, carrier battles and land strikes. It like a who's who of the Pacific war. Naturally the IJN feature strongly, so too the USMC, USN and USAAF air assets. Personally I would prefer to see Guadalcanal as the first sim model, rather than Pearl harbour or Coral Sea.
  6. Given that so few sims deliver on good AI, it's obviously a really difficult task to achieve. But it can be done. The best I have ever flown against was in Empire Interactive's MiG Alley, an Korean AirWar sim. Those AI had me sweating. No magical seeing through clouds, performing unreal maneuvers, or just plain not reacting. They used classic maneuvers for the type of aircraft being flown, reacted to low fuel, broke off when outnumbered by the enemy, made good use of sun, maintained formation discipline etc. The only other sim that has come close IMO is Wings Over Flanders Field in it's latest reiteration, Between Heaven And Hell II.
  7. The choice to choose one way or the other would be ideal. Personally I would choose without. 😊
  8. I have to admit that I'm not really fussed about what ships are depicted, as long as there is a good spread of 'types' within the sim. I would be more concerned as to how that appear in the sim. That is, the wake of the ships (always done poorly in sims to date IMHO), and cohesion and reaction to air attacks. Accurate evasive maneuvers is very important eg hard turning destroyers and cruisers as opposed to more ponderous aircraft carriers and battleships. Same for the integrity of AAA. Those features in my mind would add more to the immersion of the sim.
  9. Very true Wheels. But from a pilot's view pre-war it was considered a delight to fly compared to the Grumman F4F. Better control harmony (as it didn't have the weight of the F4F) and had automatic retracting undercarrige. As opposed to the manual winding up on landing gear in the F4F.
  10. I have a quite a large range of books on Japanese aircraft and the Pacific air war. Am more than happy to help in any way. Also it's well worthwhile to join https://j-aircraft.com/ This site is the home of the most knowledgeable folks on anything to do with Japan's Pacific war. They cover both air and sea. And there are several well known authors and historians who are active members, all happy to share their knowledge.
  11. I have the 'History Of Marine Corps Aviation In World War II", by Robert Sherrod. Covers all aspects of Mariane aviation, including aircraft, units, locations and dates of deployment and personalities. The best book around for USN unit details is Barrett Tillmans 'US Navy Fighter Squadrons In World War II'. Sadly price wise it's out of my reach. But you ca contact Barrett either on https://j-aircraft.com/ or http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/ He frequents both sites. Finally j-aircraft is to the place to go to regarding anything Japanese in WWII. The knowledge of the folks there is unsurpassed.
  12. America's Hundred Thousand is an incredible reference book. One of my most cherished. Also have a large range of other books that deal individually with all of the USAAF and USN aircraft of the War.
  13. I have high hopes that New Guinea, Malaya, Dutch East Indies and Northern Australia are included at some time in the sim.
  14. Vigilante, I too am a sucker for the lessor know aeroplanes of WWII. The F42A would indeed be fun to fly against A6M's, as would the Commonwealth version B-339E over Malaya and Singapore.
  15. Hi all, I'm Boom. See a number of familiar faces going back over the years here. I'm a serious Pacific Theatre tragic, going way back to Dynamix Aces Of The Pacific. 😄 Any sim that had the ability to fly in the Pacific I bought, including Microprose 1942 The Pacific Air War, Air Warrior III, CFS I with mods Battle Of Midway and Pacific Theatre, European Air War (with Theatre mods), CFS 2, Rising Sun and the IL-2 1946 series. So news of a new Pacific Theatre has me crawling up the walls. 😄 I just hope that it'll include both the Guadalcanal campaign (which includes two fascinating key carrier battles); and the air campaign over northern Australia - both 1942 and 1943. Whatever comes out, I'm in!
