BlitzPig_EL Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Yamato, the single most over rated weapon ever built, with Bismarck and Tirpitz a close second. 5 Quote

As much of a compromise both ships actually were, I don't think they were a bad investment realtively speaking. The Jumo 222 engine cost way more overall and it helped sinking the future of an entire airforce that took a bet on it, rather than just itself. 3 Quote
Chief_Mouser Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Bismarck and Tirpitz weren't over-rated in themselves, they were superb ships. They were, however, made almost powerless by the structure of the Kriegsmarine, way top-heavy and with little support. The German Navy of the time was so small that it couldn't cope with having giant battleships as its figurehead, especially after the sinking of the Prince of Wales and Repulse showed everyone that the battleship had passed it's sell-by date. Navies as large as the Royal Navy and US Navy could get away with it for a few years because of the size of their fleets; no one else could. 🍻 2 1 Quote The Bell Inn, Bath.
