Boom
Flying over New Guinea was considered one of the most dangerous and difficult places during the war, simply due to the rapidity of weather changes and mountains. Numerous planes simply disappeared. The film below is modern day (flying from Matiyama to Wewak on the north coast of Papua New Guinea), and illustrates just how quickly weather can change. And the challenges that a pilot would face. Imagine being in the same position as this pilot, but no radar, weather satellites, GPS or glass cockpit eg G1000 etc. Kinda scary. 2
