Looking at yesterdays (18th October) announcement I observed several sections where I could perceive noticable "tiling" patterns within the Ocean. By that I mean repeated patters of movement giving a quilted impression. Obviously this pre Alpha and Im not pointing it out to be "that guy" but, having a look around tutorials and forums various, whilst there is lots that can be done with the ocean, its all seems to be focussed around small areas at lower levels (so as one might observe from the deck of a ship or from a beach).

A flight sim takes a different perspective so I wondered if anyone knew or had examples of how far UE5 can be adapted to suit.

As I say Im not pointing anything out to be a dick, Im genuinely curious.

@Boo no need to worry, if you check out these two videos you can see the toolset available is more than adequate to remove repetition. Unreal uses texture tiles, even if they have water effects added to them, so breaking up the repetition is pretty straightforward, and as mentioned, this is very Alpha.

However there are some incredible add-ons for Unreal like FluidNinja that make water and particle effects look incredible. These would save a lot of hours!

There is also Fluid Flux.

As a long time (former) boater, yeah, I think the water needs a bit of work, but it's only at alpha stage, so not really worried about it. CP water is fairly good, just not quite there yet. The other detail that needs to be done well is the interaction between the water and the vessel. I'm sure they'll get there soon enough.

the water used in the vid is the basic water tex from UE4.
UE5 has a new water in de pipeline but it's not ready yet, it's in alpha/beta/test version right now (it makes me think i didn't actually tested it yet):

The Fluid Ninja stuff shows that now we can expect realistic ship wakes, when cruisers, carriers, destroyers, cargo ships, submarines etc. move at different speed in water.

Waves splashing against ships etc.

Please consider that when the game will be released we will be all running RTX 7090 graphic cards 😁
