Sea Serpent
I ran across this old game catalog from SSI and I imagined some others here might have played some of these games. I was a big fan of war games like Warship, and Kampfgruppe, but also the fantasy games like Pool of Radiance. https://archive.org/details/ssi-game-catalog-1989-1990/page/14/mode/1up And from 1985 https://archive.org/details/spring-85-catalogue/page/n14/mode/1up Edited June 12 by Sea Serpent 4
Trooper117
I don't think I played any of them... I've obviously led a very sheltered life!
javelina
I use to play a lot of the SSI, AH, and GDW board games. Back in the late 70's and early 80's. I still have many of them stored in the closet. (yep, I'm an old grognard...) 3 Quote MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control
Sea Serpent
These taught a lot of historical knowledge that benefits to this day. Wargames are the only reason I can converse on a modern combat flight sim forum about the subjects being discussed here, be it planes, ships, battles, or whatever.
Skelthos
I have played (I still break them out occasionally) many of the SSI games. I might be old enough to remember when these where cutting-edge modern games.

javelina
for me. SSI: War in the East - the Russo German conflict, Wacht am Rhein, Wellington's Victory, Terrible Swift Sword.... Marshal Enterprises: La Bataille de la Moscowa AH: I learned with Tactics II (my first game), the Third Reich, Jutland, Panzer Blitz... (I just have way too many games tucked away. Loved playing so many of them). 2 Quote MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control
Sea Serpent
I knew about the Bismarck from Computer Bismarck. I guess I had an overview of the Solomons from Guadalcanal Campaign, and Warship, and some knowledge of the Eastern Front from War in Russia, and later, Mech Brigade had Hinds and Apaches, and T-80s, Abrams, Hots, and Hellfires, way back when, so these were fun but so educational.
Skelthos
2 hours ago, Sea Serpent said: What was your favorite, just out of curiosity? Hard to pick a favorite, I suppose Pacific General and Gettysburg are probably the 2 I spent the most time on, well besides the "gold box" D&D games.
Sea Serpent
The games inspired further reading about what happened in real life, so they lay a good foundation for whatever you’re interested in. I would have left the fast battleships guarding the San Bernadino straits, and kicked the hell out of the Japanese battleships, Yamato and all. I also learned about Gettysburg from the game of the same name. I went there once, and felt like I had a good understanding of what went on, and where I was on the battlefield, just because I had previously played a hex-based war game.
