HellCat_  reporting for duty  o7 ..... retiring this year and should have plenty of time for this 😊

    :beercheers:

Retirement is a wonderful thing! I retired in 2016, just in time for the VR wave to hit and got into it in Jan 2017. Let me tell ya I have so loved my flight simming especially since I retired. Finally able to devote a lot of time to my passion for a hobby.

...unless you are able to do it and have large formations.  Recall that IL-2 GB's development started like over ten years ago, and things have changed quite a bit since then.

What I like about the AI having the same flight models is that I am fighting against less phony AI (or at least I believe that I am).

Well I was involved in IL-2 GB from the beginning with the first early access and all throughout the additions.

I don't recall large formations being able to be done but certainly could be wrong I guess. I have just never seen them. At least no where near how DCS does with large formations. All of my flying was with either PWCG or Career Mode.

I think Jason and his team really have an amazing opportunity here to create the ultimate career mode, something that really sets it apart from other sims out there. I know I'm biased as I only really play single player, but to have something with a real longevity, where you can form an almost emotional bond with your squadron mates would be amazing.

Just please for the love of all, do not make the AI use the same flight models as the player plane. I believe that was the big detriment to large formations in IL-2 GB?

Full fidelity or not Full fidelity...

In two senteces:  The only fidelity that matters is the one that will be or could be used in flight. all the buttons that just serve a cold start up procedure are not usefull in my opinion.

On the other hand, any switch or wheel the pilot can move to prevent his airplane to fall or just to get himself back home... that I want... Fuel management, prop management, electrical power management, emergency landing gear, etc

    thx

Fwiw all the buttons required to startup in a WWII bird are in fact very few. I can have my engines running and warmed up to begin to taxi in like 5 minutes. This is with the Spit and the P-51 in DCS.

And if you are going for a complex FM for each aircraft, please don’t give the AI the same one as the player. Please consider having a simplified FM for the AI to use. Experience has shown how complex FMs drastically limit the number of AI that can be in the air at one time. And also severely reduce the number of things that the AI can actually accomplish.

The southern Med and N. Africa is nicely done by Cliffs of Dover - Tobruk.. and "should" be receiving a major update soon including VR..

Really? How many years have they been saying that now?

I uninstalled the game a long time ago. Can't see me ever re-installing.

Needing to update my flight control setup. There is the usual Thrustmaster & Logitech. I also found VKB Controllers & Winwing. Anyone have other options I can explore? I am looking for higher end with the ability to buy replacement parts if needed.

I run a Virpil CM3 Throttle and a Virpil CM3 Base with Alpha Prime grip, on a 200mm extension. Love the setup.

If they are constructing a new game engine. With Jason’s experience and DCS and msfs as diversion he knows what is expected.
That said DCS and MSFS struggle with MT.
they have both a way to go. And as I understand it MT is one of the reasons they build MSFS 2024.
So it is not a given thing.
Funding of this endeavour is my main concern, everything can be done if there is money. And with a wish list as long as the moon and back we are going to have to wait many years if all thing’s implemented in the beginning.

Actually DCS benefited nicely from the initial implementation of MT. And it is still in beta. Have not tried MSFS 2020 yet. So yeah I hope to see it in this new sim for sure.

It sounds like the intention is to create an all-new engine. I also hope that it is designed for larger engagements and better gameplay than the other series. I grew very tired of the perpetual skirmish mode in GB and never want to go back to that again.

Yep too limited in size and scope, never really felt part of something much larger. I supposed the elaborate "AI using exact same FM as the player" thing could have kept it limited but I don't know.

  10. One thing I would love to see is native Open XR support for VR, and also if possible Quad View support for VR. The latter I am not real sure what all would be involved there - I can tell you for headsets that have quad view and games that support quad view, Dynamic Foveated Rendering with eye tracking can be used to very signicantly increase VR performance. We have seen this implemented successfully in DCS for Quest Pro and Varjo Aero. I understand Pimax Crystal will be getting it as well.

I have the Varjo Aero and can tell you in DCS my performance boost running with eye tracked DFR was astounding. I also understand similar is being done in MSFS 2020 now as well with good success. Open XR is needed as Steam VR does not have quad view support currently.

Do you actually know somebody that wears “real gloves and junk” when doing a flight sim?  Let’s stick to reality.

And even if they did how in the world could that possibly bother someone else, I mean no one would see it right...

Maybe its easier to say what I don't want:

I don't want a game that chokes on itself and runs in slow motion if there are 20 AI aircraft in the air.

I don't want AI radio chatter that is so crushingly repetitive that I have to quit after 15 minutes of it.

I don't want an AI that uses the same FM as me, at the cost of being bloody useless at everything else.

When I was doing Discord with some DCS people, I encountered a lot of completely un-moderated kooks, so I’m kind of hesitant these days.

I think it is probably better somewhat now. It is a busy Discord for sure - I tend to check it off and on daily and really have not run across much of that. I subscribe to the Combat Pilot, IL-2, and DCS Discords.
